Formative Writing

Summary Thread 3

This week I evaluated Zachary Jamison, Dreythan Olmos and Hunter Gripp. Though I enjoyed reading all of their submissions, I most enjoyed Dreythan's take on calling transgender people by their preferred pronouns. He stated correctly that gender and biology are two seperate things and equated using someone's preferred pronouns to following the rules of common decency and decorum. I concede that this is how the world should work: people should be nicer to one another and allow them to be themselves without interferance. From what I have observed, most people so averse to preferred pronouns aren't so for any legitemate reason; they merely want to maintain a status-quo and keep marginalized groups at the bottom. I think I most learned from Dreythan's post that I am not alone in my thinking on this issue. I sometimes feel so living in Texas.
